So it’s been over a month since the last post here, it would of been two if my friend Hannah hadn’t of posted her latest recipe. Not much is new with me Veg-wise. I updated my other personal blog with a long post of general updates. Some of my family members are still annoying me about being a vegetarian. Like my aunt who says she’s had dreams where I’m eating meat. She seems to of had a new one like this everytime I see her, frankly it’s annoying. I can’t stop her from having dreams like that (if she’s actually having them), but that doesn’t mean I need to hear about them everytime I see her. I also don’t need to be asked [in a way that she thinks is funny] “are you sure you don’t want any meat”.

There have been some new employees at the office, two of them found out that I am a vegetarian at the exact same time, and they just had a dumbfounded look on their faces when they found out. After a minute or so they had a few questions (I’d been out to lunch with them twice and I guess they never noticed what I ordered).

The only other thing I really have to say is that I have made a decision that my family isn’t going to like. I’m not going to Thanksgiving with them this year. I’d rather be alone then around them at times. Thanksgiving ‘06 I just had a bunch of questions from family members and “taunts” from others. Thanksgiving ‘07 I ended up being stuck right next to the dead turkey, which is no fun. Christmas Eve last year was great though. I think the overall tone/mood of a family gathering is based on where the gathering is taking place. Thanksgiving is at my Aunt and Uncles and Chrismas Eve is at my cousins (who rock by the way, they let me have my 21st birthday party at their house last year). My cousins don’t make “what’s Josh going to eat” the last thing on the their mind. I mean for Christmas last year, they actually bought and made a Tofurkey.

Hmm, this post is getting pretty long. I made posts on all three of my blogs tonight and they were all pretty long. Guess I need to update more frequently.

2 lg Portobella Mushrooms
Boca Burgers (flame grilled flavor) 1 box
Vegetable Oil/Olive Oil
2 cans Cream of Mushroom Soup

Saute finely chopped onions first in enough wine to just cover the onions… Once onions begin to cook down, add cleaned and chopped mushrooms. Stir frequently, allow to cook down.

Meanwhile, thaw boca burgers in microwave for 30 secs to a min, just enough to soften. Then chop into tiny squares. Then place in hot frying pan with some oil. Cover and simmer on med. Stir frequently and carefully. Oil can burn and spatter.

Next boil water and add egg noodles. When the noodles are done, strain and add 2 cans (4 if you double recipe) mushroom soup stir rapidly. Take onion and wine mix off heat. Add Boca to pasta mix. Continue stirring. Slowly add onion and wine mix.

stir thoroughly. and serve warm.

make sure to use alcohol removed wine or else your cream of mushroom can curdle. It is important to NOT heat the mushroom soup other than with contact with the other heated food.

I sauted the mushrooms and peppers, but as I finished and the oven alerted me that it was preheated, I decided not to make it. I ended up throwing in some beens and making some rice to go along with it. It was a really good decision in my opinion.

I haven’t been up for long, but I turn the news on because I hear rain and wanted to see if it was going to be freezing rain. Within two minutes of turning it on, I hear that a slaughter house that provides beef to fast food restaurants and schools, is having a major recall. Apparently they tortured sick cows into looking healthy. Now I’m not sure how you can possibly torture any animal into looking healthy. That usually causes the opposite effect. I’m so glad I don’t eat meat.

Also within that two minutes, I hear that Häagen-Dazs® is concerned about the bee decline. Their answer, a new flavor of course! “Vanilla Honeybee” is apparently it’s name and they say about 40% of their flavors use honey. Yeah, you know creating a new flavor with Honeybee in the name and using even more honey is definitely the way to go, because to stop using honey wouldn’t help one bit. Sometimes I wonder if people really think.

I haven’t made a post for a while. Partly due to work, partly due to the fact that every time I sat down to write a post I stopped half way through because I was trying to force something that normally comes naturally. Today though I have a reason to write… well two reasons actually. The first reason is that I woke up to the smell of a dead body roasting in the oven. I’m at my mom’s and I was closed, and the last thing I wanted to smell at 6am was a dead turkey. Now I’m sitting in the living room and every damn TV channel has someone carving a dead bird and my mom’s pissed that I wouldn’t help her with moving the dead animal out of the pan.

Ok, second reason. I want to know what you’re thankful for. I am thankful for everything that has happened to me in the past year. Good, bad, or otherwise. I’m also thankful that I have some people who support my decision to go vegetarian. Though right now it doesn’t seem many are in my family.

Today is one year since my decision to go veg for life. It’s been interesting. I’ve dealt with a omnivore Thanksgiving and Christmas, some rude comments and repetitive questions from family members, and awkward dinners out with family members mentioning to the waiter/waitress that I am vegetarian. It’s none of their business. If I can happily find something I can eat on menu, then there’s no need to bring it up.

So my year has been odd, but good. Goals for this next year of veg life are to blog more, and find someone special who is veg*. One last thing regarding the ‘One’ part of this post. If you’ve supported me, thank you.

On to the ‘Three’ part of this post. I’m building my own content management system once again for this site. It’s really cool and simple. So new system and design coming later this weekend.

Sorry for the absence I’ve had a lot of things that I had to get done. I updated my portfolio, played paintball, moved across town (love the new place), and I’ve been working every week day. I haven’t really had time to cook and add to the “Recipes” category and I haven’t had a chance to really “Rant” about something. I was going to make a post about Michael Vick and his dogfighting, but I don’t want to waste my time on a pathetic human being. To sum up my feelings about him, I hope a dog is there laughing his ass off when Vick finally meets his maker.

I’m working on a new design for this site. It’s a burnt red-orange theme. It looks neat. I might make one part of it a Flash animation (it’s a “coming soon” section). The logo looks fucking amazing if I do say so myself. Simple ITC Kabel (Book) in white. I’m going to get back to working on it, but to make things interesting. What do you think of the whole Michael Vick dog fighting?
